Twitter is expected to make job cuts later today
An internal email surfaced, saying that this is a necessary step in “an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path”. Twitter will actually close down offices temporarily, and the badge access will be suspended, it seems. “We will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday”, the email said. It was also added: “We recognize this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is, unfortunately, necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward”. It is said that employees will learn their fate by 9 AM PST on Friday. Workers who will stay on board will be notified via their company email. On the other hand, those who are affected by the decision, will be told of the “next steps” through their personal accounts.
As many as 8,000 jobs may be on the line
This is just a speculation, it seems, but as many as 8,000 jobs may be on the line. That’s half of Twitter’s workforce. It’s not exactly a secret that Twitter has been struggling to make a profit, and one way to start the reorganization is to lower the wage bill. That should always be the last stand step, but it may happen. Simon Balmain, a senior community manager for Twitter in the UK, said to BCC that he believes he has been laid off. He said that he has been logged out of his work laptop, and Slack. As some of you know, Elon Musk fired the company’s top executives a couple of days ago. He did that basically immediately after he took over. He didn’t waste time, and already announced some changes, such as the changes to Twitter Blue. The subscription will now cost $8, instead of $4.99, but it will bring a verification icon with it, and some other perks. Many more changes seem to be on the way, as we’re getting new reports constantly.
