That’s right, these are slight alterations to some of the icons you’ll see in the UI. This includes The home, search, notifications, messages, “like”, and Communities buttons. You’ll only really notice the differences between the icons if you compare them side by side. The new icons have slightly thicker outlines, and that’s pretty much it. The only icons to get any notable alterations are the notifications and Communities icons. The old notifications icon was a simple bell with a curved bottom. With the new icon, the curve at the bottom is much more subtle- it’s pretty much non-existent. As for the Communities icon, Twitter basically took a steamroller to it. The old icon has a bit more depth to it. One person icon sat in front of the other. With the new icon, the heads of the people are much smaller, and they seem to be occupying the same plane. Twitter says that “The goal was to create a cohesive set of icons that are bold in space and style yet still available in a little cheeky where possible.” Whatever that means. All in all, these are new Twitter icons that don’t really flip the script.
Aside from new icons, what else is going on at Twitter? A massive job cut…
The drama between Elon Musk and Twitter is still boiling, as whether or not the billionaire will own the social media platform is still up in the air. Both sides are still slugging it out, but it seems that Twitter employees are the ones taking the biggest blows. According to a new report, if Elon musk does take over Twitter, he plans to cut around 75% of the current jobs. Earlier this year, Twitter already laid off several employees, but nothing on the scale of 75%. This means that, if Musk does lay off that many people, there will be just north of 2,000 workers left at the company. That’s minuscule compared to the 75,000 people currently employed. That’s a massive hit- heck, 2,000 is probably the size of the team that created the new Twitter icons. We’re all wondering what the company could possibly do with that many people at all. We’ll have to wait and see how this turns out because a job cut this massive will definitely have a negative effect on the company.
