Spotify is always out to be more than just a music streaming company. It offers podcasts and audiobooks along with the music. Also, it lets you track live events coming to your area and buy tickets right in the app.

Now, Spotify has a karaoke mode that will let you sing along

We’re all guilty of singing out loud while enjoying our music, so why not make it a bit more fun? With karaoke mode, the Spotify app will play the music as usual. Your microphone will activate and monitor your voice while you sing. Also, in true karaoke bar fashion, the lyrics will pop up on the screen so you can read them. Now, if you think that singing along with Taylor Swift in the privacy of your bedroom will shield you from criticism, you’d be mistaken. As stated, the app uses the microphone to monitor your voice. Thus, it will analyze the audio and give you a rating on how good your singing is. Now, it’d be really hard for AI to rate the actual quality of your voice, as that’s pretty subjective. However, it’s most likely just analyzing how in-tune your voice is compared to the music. You’ll get a rating and, if you’re unsatisfied with it, you can try again for a better score.

Excited to start singing?

This feature is currently being rolled out, so if you don’t see it just yet, don’t worry. It probably just hasn’t made it to your phone. You should get it over the next couple of days, however. You’ll want to make sure you’re using the most up-to-date version of Spotify. Search for the Spotify app in the Google Play Store. If you see the green Update button on the top of the UI, tap on it and let it install. Then, you should be able to see the karaoke mode in the Spotify app.

How to use it

When you start a song, bring up the lyrics. On the top right of that UI, you should see a button called Sing. When you tap on that button, you’ll be in karaoke mode.
