While the Bose QuietComfort has received good reviews from the tech world, the one area where it kind of lets down is the lack of customizability. Users need to rely on the system tuning of the equalizer for listening to music, which isn’t ideal for everyone. Some find it decent enough, whereas some find it simply average. Thankfully, that is going to change now with the arrival of the new firmware update. You will now have more control over the equalizer based on your preferences. According to the latest report by Engadget, Bose confirmed that it is rolling out a new update for the Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones that brings an adjustable EQ feature. With this feature, users will be able to customize or tweak the bass, mid, and treble to suit their tastes. Moreover, there are pre-loaded presets as well, if you aren’t into granular controls.

The latest firmware version 2.0.4 is available via the Bose Music app.All you need to do is simply choose the “Install Update” option from the QC45 update screen. Talking about the interface, the EQ settings screen is plain and simple. You get three sliders, namely, bass, mid and treble. There are four presets, i.e., bass boost, bass reducer, treble boost, and treble reducer. The good thing about these presets is that they sound exactly like what they are named for and what they will do. You can move the slider and set the bass, mid, and treble for presets as well. If you think you have screwed up the sound, there is the handy “Reset” button to your rescue. Sadly, even after the addition of the adjustable equalizer settings on the Bose QuietComfort 45, the feature seems incomplete. This is because there is no option to save a manual setting. Notably, you won’t be able to switch back to your preferred settings quickly. So, you have to do the tweaks again and again, which could be annoying. For some, heavy bass is good for a particular genre of song, whereas high mids are good for a particular genre of song. Overall, although, the default sound settings were good enough for most people, giving the extra legroom for tuning as per their preference adds to the user’s convenience.
